Well, it's been one month since I published my Resolutions, and I figure it's time to see how I've been doing.  I copied my ARDF-related resolutions at the bottom of this article.

The only resolution that I've really failed to do is exercise 4 times a week.  I've got to do better.

BillyPig VII. Me at Control 11.

I've been reading two training-related websites in the last few weeks:

Eric Buckley, a St. Louis, Missouri-based Orienteer and Adventure Racer (and winner of the BillyPig last Saturday) has some really nice goal-setting and training plan articles on his blog.  I've been reading a lot of training logs on attackpoint.org and Eric's explanation of common training terms like "pace" and "threshold" really helped me understand what I've been reading.

Over the Christmas Holiday, Holger Hott-Johansen of Norway and Sandy Hott-Johansen of Canada, both WOC competitors, held a training camp in Hamilton, Ontario for Canadian and US Orienteering Team members.  The Powerpoint charts and other materials from the camp cover both training and nutrition.

How I've done so far:

I haven't trained 4 times a week regularly.  Last year I averaged one workout a week, usually an event, so I am doing a lot better—just not 4 times a week.

I should have lost about 3 pounds.  I don't think I have. I'm in noticeably better shape, though.

I ran the long version of a billygoat-type event, OCIN's BillyPig.  It was shorter and had less climb than historical Billygoats (the original), and I certainly would not have won the shirt.  However, it was the longest workout I've done in years and years.  14.1km over the ground in 3 hours 17 minutes.  I was completely tired at the finish. Now, two days later, I'm still getting over the soreness.

No maps completed.

I'm setting an event this weekend, so that'll be one down, two to go.

I've scheduled a presentation to 1 Group, and...I started an ARDF Website.

Overall?  I'm doing pretty well, although the workouts per week needs some attention.

My resolutions from January 1st, 2006:
   1.  Eat Better, and Less.
   2.  Exercise a minimum of 4 times a week for 20 minutes each.
   3.  Lose 10lb by April 8, 2006, and 20lb by Sept 12, 2006.
   4.  Get a Billygoat T-Shirt: www.billygoat.org/  (I may not be
able to do this due to vacation day issues---That's okay.  Next year
is okay, too.)
   5.  Finish 3 small orienteering maps.  See the Dec 26th post here:
        http://okansas.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_okansas_archive.html
(And two or three posts after Dec 26.)
       And here: http://ghocanadagho.blogspot.com/2005/12/make-map-in-06.html
   6.  Set 3 local Regular O events, 1 day of the Flying Pig A-Meet,
and however many high-quality ARDF events we can fit in.
   7.  Promote ARDF more than I have been:
       a.  Give an ARDF Presentation to 3 Groups
       b.  Work on some "Park ARDF" events for Hamvention, Field Day,
NFW, Hamfests
       c.  Start an ARDF Website.  (I've already got my domain name!
Within a week!)
